Guidelines for Final Presentations

Presentations should last 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minute period of response from faculty.

Presentations must include:

  • An introduction and conclusion, in which you share the equivalent of a thesis statement about your work
  • A minimum of 4-6 works of your own, where form and content are analyzed and contextualized
  • Discussion of something non-art-related that drives your work (context)
  • At least one work of art, artist or movement that provides context to compare/contrast your own work against
  • Descriptions below images (Title of work, date, ARTIST FIRST NAME ARTIST LAST NAME (if not you), media, size in inches (height x width x depth)
  • Clear images of your work, free from pixellation or other components that distract from the integrity of the work

Pointers:

  • Read from a script or very thorough notes
  • Make sure there are images presented for everything you are speaking about
  • If reading a quote, put the quote on screen and read aloud so the audience can follow you
  • Consider sequencing by chronology or theme
  • Present the images as large as you can on the screen
